Yukky Bugs

Yuk! I just spent my morning outside picking Japanese Beetles off of my rose bushes and dropping them into soapy water. Yuk! But it had to be done. I refuse to allow those bugs to kill my roses. When I discovered the beetles on my roses over the weekend, I was quite surprised. I've had rose bushes for over 10 years in my yard and this is the first time I've had Japanese Beetles. I'm not happy. Picking up bugs...any bugs is just not my idea of fun. But I'll be out there again tomorrow morning with my soapy water and my gloved hands. Otherwise, I've been enjoying my garden. My bean plants are producing enough to have beans every 3 or 4 nights, my onions are maturing, I've got a few cucumbers every couple of days, and my lettuce is thriving. My cantaloupe and pepper plants have blooms and my carrots are getting bigger. I love going out and 'surveying' my gardens. I'm already planning a new bed for the fall. I've got to plan better placement so I can rotate the crops appropriately. My cucumbers have a little bitter taste to them and after reading, I think I planted them too close to my onions. Interesting. Of course, when I planted them I thought my onions would have been all harvested by now.

The Singer and 2 of her college buds came over Saturday afternoon for a relaxing time before exam week. Hubby grilled some burgers and I served up some home-grown green beans with home-grown onions and some home-grown cucumbers. They devoured it all and were so appreciative. The weather was perfect and after eating they leaned back in the lounge chairs and took a nap.

I've been doing a lot of scrapping lately. I got a new toy...my Mother's Day and birthday present early. Hubby got me a Cricut I've been having loads of fun with it. The Imp used it to make letters for her school project, too. I'm making good progress on my books and I simply love doing it.
